DGI - Image
Generation Division - of INPE is in charge of the reception, processing and
distribution of the images acquired by the LANDSAT and
CBERS remote sensing
satellites.

|
I - Process, store and distribute,
on an operational basis, earth observation satellite and equipments;
II - operate, maintain and upgrade the processing
center systems and equipments;
III - maintain agreements with public and private
earth observation satellites operators in order to assure data availability for
Brazilian users;
IV - receive, process and disseminate the data
available from the Brazilian space program remote sensing satellites;
V - participate actively in the capacity building
of the Nation's industrial sector towards technological self-sufficiency in
receiving and processing remote sensing imagery;
VI - keep and made available to the Brazilian
community the remote sensing data archives of the Brazilian Remote Sensing Data
Center.

The Brazilian Ministry
of Science and Technology has decided to make available for download by
interested users, at no cost, the INPE holdings of historical (1973-1983) MSS
imagery from Landsats 1, 2 and 3.
